Fireplace Inserts for RVs Travel Trailers and Campers

Fireplace Inserts

A fireplace insert is a standalone unit that's typically placed into walls or cabinets. This is the most popular option for RVs and travel trailers. Inserts come in two styles, plug-in or built-in.

The difference between the two styles is a plug-in can be used anywhere you have an outlet and built-in can be hardwired for a more seamless appearance.

How To Install An Electric Fireplace Insert For Your RV

  • Find the right location in your RV
Most electric fireplace inserts are self-contained and be installed almost anywhere. You'll need electricity, so look for a suitable cabinet with electrical access. A good space to use is underneath an existing television and converting that cabinet below to fit your insert.

  • Measure the dimensions
Measure the width, height, and depth of the spot then browse some electrical fireplaces to find the right one for your project.

  • Cut your cabinet based on the dimensions
Use the dimensions of the firebox flange. The flange is generally 1/2" and is on the top and sides. Leave a few inches on the top for air flow.

  • Add necessary support
When adding a fireplace to an RV,  it's important to add extra support underneath the unit, to hold the insert in palace and to avoid movement while traveling.

  • Plug the fireplace unit into a 110V outlet

  • Slide the fireplace insert into the location and secure
This should be a snug fit, except for the top. Fireplace inserts don't need clearance from combustible material, all you need is enough air on the top for air intake. The unit will likely provide screws that you can use.

As you can see, it's a straightforward install and as long as you have the space for it, an electric fireplace can make a great additional to your RV or travel trailer.
